What is the DUNS Number?

DUNS stands for Data Universal Numbering System and is a method to deliver a Live Business Identity. Developed by Duns & Bradstreet, its a 9 digit unique identifier for businesses and organizations. The DUNS number allows us to systematically identify and substantiate organizations on a global level using live up-to-date data.

Data points include:

  • Device identifiers and IP addresses for targeted digital marketing

  • Industry profiles for intelligent sales prospecting

  • Contact information for direct customer connection

  • Extensive payment history for better predictability

  • Entity ownership insights to know who ultimately benefits from a company’s performance

Why do I need it for truMobile setup?

  • You need it to create an Apple account for your iOS app.

  • Apple will need to verify this for your entity.

  • It is a free number, no payment is needed.

So how to I start?

  • You might already have a DUNS number, try looking it up before creating a DUNS

  • You might already have a DUNS number but the information is old and requires updating

  • You might need to apply for a DUNS Number.

How do I know whether I have a DUNS number or not?

Case 1: You have a number and all information is up to date

  1. Go to https://www.dnb.com/ca-en/duns-number.html 

  2. Click on DUNS NUMBER and Select DUNS 

  3. Click on D-U-N-S Number Lookup to check if you already have one.

3. Scroll down till you see the below  

4. Click on Company Name, Select Province , check box 

5. Hit “Search Now “

6. Select your Company, review the information to confirm your legal name and your address are correct .

7. To receive the number add your name and email address to receive the number by email  

8. You will see this confirmation message

Case 2: You have a number and but need to update the information

Same steps as Case1 1 to 6 . If you need to update your information.

Case 3: You Don’t have a Duns number and need to apply for one
